The Least Mommy-Like Thing(s) I Have Done This Week...

Thanks to CrystalSnow for the challenge...

This. Is. Hard.
Not because I have something I am too embarrassed about, or because I want everyone to think I am the perfect mom.
The truth is, we have been pretty liberal in our parenting style. She learned to play on her own early on, she is HIGHLY independent (and thusly stubborn), and she is super active. We parent by instinct; we have tossed out information gleaned from all kinds of parenting manuals, everything from The Happiest Toddler on the Block to Baby Sign Language. (Note: I have NO PROBLEM with any of these manuals. They just didn’t work for me, Violet, and Jason. Every Family and Child is different, and I applaud those who find manuals that work for them. Thank you. *cue music and public service announcement logo*) Anyways, that usually means a lot of stuff we consider normal falls short of the ModernMommyMark.
So, un-mommy-like things I may have done this week would include…
  • Trimming Jason’s Mohawk
  • Making Violet dance to Journey
  • Trying to teach her that “L” on the forehead means “Daddy”
  • Walking my daughter through the Halloween aisle at Michael’s so she can see all the scary decorations, which she loved
  • Feeding Violet curry
  • Letting her stack dvd cases into different piles, since I still haven’t bought her any blocks
  • Watching Scrubs while we ate dinner (Scrubs has been Violet’s favorite non-handy-man-or-blue-dog show since birth. Yes, we let her watch TV.)
  • Um, we let Violet watch TV

So, there you have it. A partial list of my failings as a mother.

Good thing I am fabulous.

yep. yep, that is chips and salsa I am letting my 1-year-old eat, all by herself. maybe I should add that to the list...

I love the list. Thanks for playing. I guess I better get my post up soon.

But the question is: do they have real salsa up in Alaska? Or is it kind of like trying to find a brat in New Mexico or brisket in Michigan?

No matter, she's cute and she's enjoying it.

You are so the mom I aspire to be one day! 1) Journey is one of the FIRST things our child will hear and 2) "L on the forehead means daddy" -- priceless!

Oh God, the only thing that saves my sanity is the one hour Teletubbies-a-thon in the morning. Time for coffee and blog reading. My sister grew up watching nothing but tv and she is some sort of child genius. It's all about who the kid is, so don't worry. Also, curry? Is it bad to feed your kid curry? Because then I get an F, too.

L on the forehead. Priceless. Hey, my 5 year old's favorite song right now is Mr. Brightside by the Killers. He calls it the smoke song (...While he’s having a smoke
And she’s taking a drag...). We won't talk about how much he likes 50 cent's Candyshop. Hey, he thinks it's about candy!

Good things, good things! My kids watch TV too. I think it's an excellent babysitter. Oh, and I think it's awesome that you're introducting Violet to curry. She will be an international woman.

dude, I am starting to think you are me. It's scary how we think alike.
Last time I dyed the hubs' hair blue, my eldest decided she wanted blue streaks too. So that's what we did(the eldest is not quite 6 yet)

Also: Fuck those parenting books. Either they are wrong, or they have just never met my kids.

R is fab!

PS: the not quite 6 year old also has her own tv and dvd player and has known how to use both since she was about 3.

Now that's bad parenting. LOL.

You mean there are people who DON'T feed their one year olds chips and salsa? Inconceivable! Next you'll be telling me that 9 month olds don't eat lemon wedges and pickles.

I LOVE IT! I'm sure I would be cutting my husband's mohawk if he didn't shave his head. So I'll settle for giving my son his summer mohawk. So he looks the part when he dances around to his favorite music. Daddy's punk rock band. I think his love for rock started when I was nine months prego. and was rocking away at a Rise Against show and then again at a Bad Religion show. I knew he could hear it! =) If teaching my son "No honey, don't pull on Mommy and Daddy's lip rings." makes me a un Mommy-Like, so be it. My son is an extremly happy baby and that's all that matters to me. You ARE fabulous. Keep doing what you're doing.
